Fulham vs Sheffield United Full Match Reports
Marco Silva’s Fulham team secured their second victory at home in the league this season, continuing their impressive unbeaten run against Sheffield United with a brave 3-1 win at Craven Cottage.
Starting the weekend in last place in the Premier League, Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom once again found himself feeling frustrated at halftime, even though his team had managed to reach the break with the score tied. Chris Basham went down without any opposition and needed extensive medical attention for what seemed to be a severe knee injury. The center-back had to be carried off the field on a stretcher after a significant delay in the match at Craven Cottage. The first half continued for more than 14 minutes, but it was a relief for Heckingbottom and his team as the Blades were able to reach halftime without any major danger to their goal.
Nevertheless, Sheffield United’s efforts to resist were ultimately in vain, as the home team scored a well-deserved first goal not long after the game resumed. Quickly sprinting past the defenders of the opposing team, Andreas Pereira launched a rapid counter-attack and, in the end, provided a perfect pass for Bobby De Cordova-Reid to score. De Cordova-Reid neatly placed the ball into the net while the Sheffield United goalkeeper, Wes Foderingham, was rushing out to stop him.
Although they faced a setback, it did not completely defeat them. Sheffield United still had confidence in their capability to secure a point and persisted in their efforts. They scored a goal in a controversial manner as Fulham defender Issa Diop got injured. However, the team from South Yorkshire kept playing, and eventually, a cross from Yasser Larouci at the back post accidentally ended up as an own goal by Antonee Robinson.
If Fulham had bad luck with Sheffield United scoring the equalizer, they certainly made up for it with their second goal of the afternoon. On this occasion, the hosts gained an advantage from a goal scored unintentionally by the opposing team. Shooting from a distance, Tom Cairney’s shot initially hit the crossbar, but the rebound deflected off goalkeeper Foderingham and slowly rolled into the goal. In the final moments of the match, Fulham secured a victory with a goal scored by Willian, who had an impressive performance throughout the game. This goal not only earned Fulham three points, but also prolonged Sheffield United’s streak of not winning to eight matches.
The designated aHighlight Player of the Match is Willian, representing Fulham.
