Newcastle United vs Chelsea Full Match Reports

Newcastle United orchestrated a stunning triumph, securing their fifth consecutive Premier League (PL) home victory by dismantling Chelsea 4-1 at St. James’ Park, propelling themselves into the top six.

Benefitting from the international break, the Magpies, plagued by injuries before the hiatus, found partial rejuvenation. They seized the lead in the 13th minute through Alexander Isak, marking his return from injury with a goal. Young Lewis Miley, on just his second-ever PL start, provided the assist. Isak, evading the offside trap, rifled a shot into the top corner, notching his seventh league goal of the season.

However, Chelsea responded midway through the first half with a splendid Raheem Sterling free-kick, only the second of his career. The pendulum of this topsy-turvy encounter swung relentlessly, and Joelinton missed a golden opportunity to restore Newcastle’s lead, heading wide when unmarked at the back post. Kieran Trippier attempted to replicate Sterling’s effort but could only strike the bar with his set-piece.

The second period witnessed Chelsea winning another free-kick on the edge of the box, but inexplicably, Sterling ceded the chance to Reece James. The right-back’s attempt sailed off target, and the visitors paid a hefty price. Eddie Howe’s side scored two rapid-fire goals just after the hour mark, with Jamaal Lascelles heading in Anthony Gordon’s cross, followed by Joelinton capitalizing on a Thiago Silva error to fire home 90 seconds later.

Mauricio Pochettino’s woes escalated when James received his second booking, leading to a red card. The afternoon took a further nosedive for Chelsea as Gordon added a fourth, cutting inside and bending a superb effort into the far corner. Newcastle, with only one win in their previous six H2Hs against Chelsea, delivered a resounding statement victory. In contrast, defeat marked the end of the Blues’ four-game unbeaten away run, and they remain in 10th.

Player of the Match: Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United).
