Atalanta vs AC Milan Full Match Reports

In a thrilling encounter at the Gewiss Stadium, Luis Muriel emerged as the hero with a spectacular 95th-minute winner, guiding Atalanta BC to a remarkable 3-2 victory over AC Milan and breaking a five-match winless streak in their head-to-head clashes.

Gian Piero Gasperini, the long-serving Atalanta boss, had openly expressed doubts about his future at the club during the week. Seeking a response from his beleaguered squad, which had failed to secure victory in the last four league matches, Gasperini nearly witnessed a breakthrough within the first 10 minutes. Charles De Ketelaere, on loan, missed a golden opportunity from point-blank range after a setup by Ademola Lookman.

As halftime approached, fortune favored Atalanta, and they took the lead. Lookman, advancing from the left, unleashed a shot from the edge of the area that cruelly deflected off Fikayo Tomori, looping over the despairing Mike Maignan.

However, deep into first-half stoppage time, Olivier Giroud’s powerful header from a corner leveled the score, leaving Atalanta with a sense of injustice as they entered the second half. The sense of injustice fueled their play, leading to Lookman’s second goal within 10 minutes of the restart, firing home from De Ketelaere’s low cross.

Despite needing a second equalizer, Milan appeared more likely to concede as Atalanta continued to dominate. Giorgio Scalvini’s marauding run down the right forced an impressive save from Maignan, who then denied Lookman a hat-trick in quick succession.

Milan regained momentum and leveled the score again when Luka Jović turned home a low cross at the near post. However, their hopes were dampened as Davide Calabria received a second yellow card for a late challenge in stoppage time, reducing them to 10 men.

With the game seemingly heading for a draw, Atalanta had different plans. In a last-gasp moment of brilliance, Muriel, assisted by Aleksei Miranchuk, improvised a beautiful backheel beyond Maignan, igniting wild celebrations at the Gewiss Stadium. This victory ended Atalanta’s four-match winless run in Serie A.

Man of the Match: Ademola Lookman (Atalanta BC).
