Sevilla vs PSV Full Match Reports

PSV Eindhoven orchestrated a remarkable comeback, overcoming a two-goal deficit to triumph 3-2 against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán in the UEFA Champions League (UCL). This outcome seals the fate of the Spanish side, eliminating them from the possibility of progressing to the knockout stages.

Early on, home goalkeeper Marko Dmitrović found himself scrambling around the goalmouth, dealing with a Johan Bakayoko cross and thwarting Guus Til and Hirving Lozano from scoring. Despite this early threat, Sevilla regrouped, and their first clear chance materialized when Dodi Lukébakio’s pass set up Youssef En-Nesyri, whose attempt from a tight angle was expertly saved by Walter Benítez.

However, Benítez couldn’t prevent Los Nervionenses from taking the lead. Ivan Rakitić’s free-kick into the box received a crucial touch from Sergio Ramos, diverting it past the goalkeeper for the historic 10,000th goal in UCL history, Ramos’ first in the competition for his boyhood club. Although Diego Alonso’s side thought they had doubled their lead before halftime through Djibril Sow, VAR ruled it out for an offside in the build-up.

En-Nesyri seemed to put the game out of reach for PSV early in the second half, deftly lifting the ball over Benítez after running onto Marcos Acuña’s long ball. PSV, seemingly down and out, found a lifeline when Ocampos received a second booking, and they capitalized within minutes. Sergiño Dest delivered a cross from the left, volleyed into the top corner by Ismael Saibari. The Moroccan continued to be the focal point, setting up an equalizer in the 82nd minute when Jordan Teze’s cross was headed back across goal by Vertessen, with Nemanja Gudelj inadvertently diverting it into his own net.

Unsatisfied with their efforts, PSV continued to press, and in added time, Vertessen’s precise cross from the left found Ricardo Pepi, whose towering header beat Dmitrović and secured a stunning victory. This win ensures PSV’s hold on the top-two position in Group B, while Sevilla, holders of the UEFA Europa League, face potential elimination from European competition unless Lens avoids defeat against Arsenal later in the evening.

Man of the Match: Yorbe Vertessen (PSV Eindhoven).
